For reasons I’m still exploring and will probably write about, for the last few weeks I’ve been addicted to playing Tecmo Super Bowl, a game that came out in 1991. Nostalgia is obviously at play, a conclusion swiftly reached when my son scoffed at the primitive graphics and rudimentary gameplay. 8-bit is already an acquired taste, and the sprites in TSB tend to flicker like light bulbs about to short out.
More on that story in the pod.
I don’t know if this prolonged detour into the past is a kind of midlife crisis—walling myself in with the things of my childhood is more on-brand than an affair or flashy sports car—but I’m almost having too much fun to question it.
Almost.
