I still haven't gotten out of my own way to watch 'Air,' but I will. I also have a lot of films to catch up on; I only made it to 2 this year, but that was a more than I saw in 20, 21, and 22 combined, sooo.

Yeah, I also haven't recovered my 2019 love for movies.

Merry Christmas 🤶

I think tvhas been far superior than movies this year. Just take a small look at all the series enders this year...I mean SUCCESSION wow! And Barry and Dave! This year will be hard to top!

I still need to get into Succession. And also Barry. But yeah, I definitely prefer TV to movies these days. Long form forever.

Happy Hanukkah! 🕎

1. Watch The Holdovers!

2. Not Killers of the Flower Moon 🌝

3. 700+ page book just on bromances please! With plenty of beefcake pics and mom footnotes.

4. I think your Babel article was my fave because it hit closest to home!

5. Tied with that one is your Timothy Olyphant Hitman piece; it made me actually watch the movie for the first time and now I want to be a founding member of your Olyfanclub! And I think that article was what made me rent Go and watch it again after two decades!

Then that led me to binge the entire John Adams on HBO which also has Sarah Polley. And Paul Giamatti. All roads lead to The Holdovers!

Have a great and restful week off Eric, and so stoked to get the free books in 2024!

😂 I love how much I inadvertently affected your movie choices this year. And here I thought I was the only one who would watch Hitman for Timothy.

Barbie was way better than I was expecting. A genuinely laugh out loud movie with a great story and message. I also think Barbie and Indy 5 were the only ones I saw at the theater this year.

I need to check out "The Book of Basketball" by Bill Simmons. Let's hope Raylan Givens and Boyd Crowder's stories keep going, as there is still so much to be told. Wishing you and your loved ones a happy holiday!

I'm pretty sure both Timothy and Walton are down, so it's definitely happening. Probably.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday, Robin!

Amazing Recap for 2023...thanks. Video Game recommendations for 2024 Star Citizen (yes it's an alpha still circa 2014). There are free fly days that pop up so you can spend 3 days immersed in this wonderful Star Wars-Firefly-Buck Rodgers-esc RPG/MMO. I play and highly recommend!

I'm glad Dungeons and Dragons made the list. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. Shrinking might be the TV show of the year for me. And I loved Silo but it made me mad as I've had that very idea on my wall for three years. I knew I would never write it. Maybe the gift it gave me is now I can't and can forget about it. And come next year I will have my PS5 and will get on the new Jedi game since I loved the first one. Happy merry Eric.

Great post, Eric! Like you, I thoroughly enjoyed the Dungeons & Dragons movie. I wasn't expecting much going into it and was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it.

I also loved the Shrinking TV series. I'm excited for it to return. Hopefully it won't be too long until that happens!

You've made me curious about the western novels you mentioned. I was also a huge fan of Lonesome Dove. I thought it was fantastic! Just curious, did you read the other books in that series? I own all of them but still haven't gotten around to reading them. I think their long lengths have intimidated me! :-)
