One of the things I found fascinating about the Clone Wars animated series is that it had many episodes seemingly designed in direct response to complaints and criticisms of the prequel films.
Eg. "Heroes on both sides? What the heck are they talking about? " --> A two-part arc called "Heroes on Both Sides/Pursuit of Peace" that delves into the details of the separatist parliament and what its representatives actually want.
"Order 66? Why are the clones turning? Are the clones all programmed? This doesn't make any sense!" --> Multiple arcs revolving around Order 66 and the reveal that all clones have inhibitor chips meant to turn them against the Jedi and create obedience to the military.
All in all, I doubt Lucas really put a lot of thought into the opening crawl here.
Btw, Eric, if you ever do a podcast about The Last Jedi, I'd love to be a guest.
I read somewhere that Obi-Wan, Yoda, and at least Mace Windu all knew about Anakin's relationship with Padme, and under normal circumstances they would have kicked him out of the Order. But the fact that he was essentially the Clone Wars poster boy and one of their best fighters made him too valuable, so they looked the other way.
It was so heartwarming about why you pronounce it "Pad-a-me" ❤️
I felt so dumb! Lol. At least I have a good excuse.

I agree about The Clone Wars being used to patch holes. Some of that worked better than others.
I'd love to have you on! I'll make a note. It'll probably be several months before I get to TLJ, as I think I'll cover the original trilogy next.
Omg, thank you so much! It's my favorite SW movie, so whenever you get to it, I'm up to talk about it!
I watched the Obi-Wan show right after rewatching the prequels and it worked really well

It's crazy that they break the rules for Anakin, and therefore enable his fall. They're totally complicit.
"So the most powerful Jedi we've ever seen has formed a serious romantic attachment. We should probably kick him out of the Order."
"Or, and I'm just spitballing here, but what if we threw him into the most violently stressful situations we can find instead?"
