Now that you mention this scene, I'm reminded that Deadman (1995), by Jim Jaramusch, has a similar scene, used in much the same way, or perhaps, even more pointedly, not at the film's open, but when William Blake (Johnny Depp) first enters the frontier town called Machine.
Reading this really makes me want to watch Deadwood for a third time. It seems like you’ve gotten more out of it with every repeat viewing. I look forward to reading about Al who is one of the top characters on Deadwood, maybe of all time.
Oh man I'm here for it. I also expected an episodic breakdown, but this is far more interesting. Maybe you'll just create a new book. I appreciate the connections we might skin past of American life then and now. Had a chance to spend a week in the Black Hills a few years ago. Spending the day in Deadwood was a highlight. Reading this brings so much back, both the show version and the area as it exists today. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
"It’s the clearance section of Kohl’s brought to horrible life." -> I haven't seen Deadwood but this is really painting the perfect picture of the chaos 😂. I'm curious about that scene now

I haven't seen that but it sounds interesting! I'll add it to my watchlist, thanks!

He should be the subject of the next article! And I agree, the show gets better with every viewing.

The Kohl's clearance racks are things of nightmare! 😆
