I was mildly crushed to realize that the HOD finale is tonight! I thought we were in for 10 episodes, but this is also probably for the best. Isn't it time for Daemon to stop tripping balls and get on with it!? Agree that it's a fine spin-off, pre-prequel whatever you want to call it. I love that it centers the women in power (or trying to remain in power). It was too bad that Princess Rhaenys didn't make it past this season, but what. a. way. to. go. Epic. :) I second Marmi on The Bear's excruciating Fishes EP. I get it, though. It is a polarizing episode. I've heard people say "Nope. I'm OUT" because it was too harrowing and others who thought it absolutely brilliant. It is hard to watch no matter if you have people like that in your life or family. But I found it very emotionally honest. Carmy is kind of like this island in the middle of the chaos, trying to connect with Mikey, trying to manage his mother, and trying not to get swamped in the family's tsunami of mental illness, intergenerational trauma, and dysfunction. The other thing Storer does pretty masterfully is to make sure you have a lot of sympathetic and/or empathetic entry points. Because the episode sort of lurches around to all the people, you're never able to fix on just one. I found myself really relating to Sugar and her constant checking "Are you okay?" which is a family role I struggle with. Another friend of mine told me that it was hard to watch The Flaks because she said she has a brother who is a bit like that--always hitting you up to invest or get in on some flaky deal. Anyway. Sorry for the length here-I HAVE THOUGHTS! It's a tough, tough episode, but really really rich. I hope you keep going to Season 3!!!
I didn't realize HOD was only 8 episodes! I thought for sure we'd get 10.
Fishes was a train wreck but fortunately Forks was a masterpiece. What an episode. I may rewatch just that episode, it's so good.
The season 2 finale was TOUGH. And it feels like a cruel tease to start Season 3 with a long montage of Carmy remembering dishes of yore. It was beautifully done, but frustrating. I want to see what happens NEXT, not what already happened. But it's so well done that I can't hate it.
I love that The Bear provokes strong responses all over the place. It’s definitely not boring, right? :) Agreed that FORKS is a masterpiece. It could easily stand alone as a short film—that’s how you know it’s something really special. Probably my favorite episode of the series. Carla gets her own Forks-type episode that is beautiful and brilliant. Hang in there for that. You will probably dislike much of season 3. I liken it to what happens after you bring the baby home from the hospital—shit gets real and it is WORK. But the thing I keep coming back to about the show is how real it feels and how it grounds itself in a lot of uncomfortable truths. So. We finished up Casa de Dragon last night. Winter IS coming..indeed. Given where they leave it, I wish they were giving us a Part 1 with a Part 2 ready to rock in October (sad trombone). WHY IS EVERYTHING THE WORST??? :)
What I keep trying to draw a bead on is how The Bear is going to end. It seems far more likely to end with Carmy institutionalized and the restaurant a flaming wreck than it does in something that might be a happy-ish ending.
HAAA!! Wait- he’s institutionalized and becomes chef and the institute gets a Michelin star and all the celebrities suddenly need to go there for “exhaustion.” 🤣 Yeah-it’s going to be a hat trick, isn’t it? I wouldn’t bet on “happy,” but maybe “less terrible?” I’ll be watching! Thanks in the pic-felt like a good time in the season to change things up! 😉
The Xmas episode of The Bear was one of my faves!!! Thought you would dig it as it features Bernthal although the big star is Jamie Lee Curtis obvi.
Haven't started S3 yet but first we need to get caught up on HOTD, only got to see S2E1 so far. And at the end of this month there's gonna be The Rings of Power S2 hurray!!!
OK deal, I'll lyk my friend! I loved S1. But then again I thought The Hobbit films were great and I don't think you did, so we seem to have very different views where JRR Tolkien is concerned :)

Btw, great new profile pic! Totally you.

I just couldn't get into it! Though I was happy to see Bernthal and yes, Jamie Lee killed. But it was just so hard to watch.
Not so sure I'll jump into Rings of Power. S1 was a disappointment imo. Might wait to see what you think of it. :D

You have a good memory! 😀
How did I not know you play DnD? I still have some of my books from way way back in the day.
I don't know! I talk about it enough lol
Do you still play?
Glad you enjoyed some time off this week to relax and enjoy the long summer days.
