Listening: The Carriers' "Now Is The Time For Loving Me, Yourself, and Everyone Else"

Watching: Justified 2.0 & loving it.

Reading: My inbox & feeling like Sisyphus.

Also: I think "Made Rites" are also a kind of sandwich you can get in Illinois. Maybe Iowa too? I dunno. One of my coworkers talks about them.

City Primeval is a slow burn but I'm loving it. Just happy to have Raylan back, honestly.

As usual here's me being the first to comment on the Fri Hi 5 😁

Love Boyega!! He doesn't get nearly the cred and respect he deserves both as an actor and his activism work. He was great in the underrated The Circle and in The Woman King.

The family BBQ section was very poignant. Why ya gotta keep stirring up those memories for me Eric! My version is that whenever my fam gets together for one of our legendary parties, us cousins still call each other "teenagers" because that's how the Titas always referred to us.

When I was back in LA for my cuzzo's son's graduation party last month, we were all having a laugh about it. "We're like squealing 'Teenager' at each other and we're like f*ing 50yo" 😆

LOL! Isn't it funny how we never feel any older than our teenage selves?

Watching They Cloned Tyrone was the standout moment of my weekend. The magical chemistry between Fox, Boyega, and Parris is comedic gold. Once again, Fox delivers and Boyega proves himself to be one of the most talented actors of his generation.

In my opinion, Parris is the one who steals the show by holding her own with two heavyweights. A huge congratulations to first-time feature filmmaker Juel Taylor. He knocked it out of the park. Netflix should lock him down for his next few films.

I am also excited about Olyphant's return as Raylan Givens. Having grown up in Kentucky, I can say that the original Justified is spot-on when it comes to life in the rolling hills of the Bluegrass state. Detroit deserves to be its own character, much like Harlan County was in Justified.

I've never seen Parris in anything that I know of, but she was great as Yo-Yo! Loved how she tapped into her younger self reading Nancy Drew and was clearly the brains of the operation. I definitely need to watch it again.

I didn't know you hailed from Kentucky! Did you know any Dewey Crowes? Between the two of us, we have the Justified locations covered. Apart from Florida, I guess.

Let me know what you think of City Primeval. I'm loving the Midwest vibe. It feels so familiar (it was shot in Chicago but it feels Detroit) and seeing an older, grayer Raylan. The new antagonist is no Boyd Crowder (sadly, obviously) but I'm loving it.

Nia DaCosta's 2021 Candyman remake also features a great performance by Parris.

I've encountered a few people like Dewey Crowe. The unfortunate reality is that illegal activities and small-time criminal operations are common in dry county mining towns that are struggling economically.

Crowder is unique among villains because of his shared childhood history with Givens. I'm really enjoying the new season. I especially like the chemistry of the new cast. The actors and their dialogue are true to the essence of Detroit (also known as Dae-twah).
