Thank you for not spoiling the Guardians movie because I too intend to watch this film eventually. Like you, I don't rush to the theatre to see the Marvel movies anymore as they have grown a little stagnant. However; I did really enjoy the Guardians movies 1 and 2 and I probably would have seen the movie by now if it weren't for my husband who had the nerve to see the movie without me. I can't be mad because he was visiting his best friend in Denver and they went to see it together. I thought about taking my two kids but I have heard there is some backstory for Rocket that involves some animal cruelty so I have decided to screen the film first and then decide if they can watch it or not. I thought about taking my older son, he's 10 and could probably handle it. He would rather see the new Transformers movie, but let's be honest, he's 10 and will go to whatever movie I take him too.

You are right about Rocket's backstory. It's a bit harrowing.

I was initially turned off when I heard about the multiple vivisection scenes, but was hoping something might make them worth sitting through. But yeah. I think I'm content with their sendoff in the last Thor movie.

My husband was the same.

Once again, we're thinking with the same brain. I still haven't seen the latest Ant Man, and am not in any hurry. I've been on the fence about Guardians 3, and your review inspired me to skip it. I definitely need a nice long break from this genre.

Guardians is definitely worth seeing, if only to wrap-up the trilogy. But yeah, most superhero fare is a pass these days.

I haven't watched Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 yet. Superhero fatigue is real, and I’ve caught an awful case. Marvel, the DCEU, and Sony live-action films have become overly reliant on Easter eggs and formulaic plots to please their hardcore fan base, but whose non-core fans' tastes have evolved. Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is nothing short of a masterpiece.

Shannon Sharp always brings the heat on Club Shay Shay. The guests are fascinating, and the conversations can be enlightening.

I also was late to Netflix’s The Night Agent party train. Initially, it gave me an “every other CBS derivative faux action series” vibe. Surprisingly, though, it brings something far more powerful and gripping.

Michael Mann's film adaptation of Miami Vice failed to capture the same sizzle and style of the original show. The tone is too dark and he tries too hard to craft something unique. The original episodes may not hold up as well as I remember, but they were groundbreaking for the time.

What's your favorite episode of Club Shay Shay? Magic Johnson's was mine so far.

I don't think Mann's 'Miami Vice' was quite sure what it wanted to be, or say. Fun to look at though.

It's hard to decide which Club Shay Shay episode is my favorite. Too $hort comes to mind. When Freaknik was at its most popular, I was in college in Florida, so listening to them discuss how it all began and how Atlanta became a mecca for Black Southern culture was captivating. Will Packer, an alumnus, dealing with the Will Smith Oscar slap is another great one. For sports fans, Deion Sanders is always entertaining. Sharpe, Sanders, and LaDanian Tomlinson once hosted a game recap show on Sunday evenings on the NFL Network. Their chemistry is priceless.

I loved Too $hort! I'll save his episode to my watchlist. I'm a big Deion fan, too. Club Shay Shay is an amazing podcast, so glad I found it.

On The Night Agent:

You might not recognize Hong Chau but she's arguably the most high profile actor in the series, having got a best supporting actress nomination for 'The Whale.'

Also, I can say that while the first half of the season has some bumps, the second half is almost perfect. A great ride all the way to the end.

Funnily, her acting in this sorta drives me crazy. Maybe it's the material but I'm not a fan so far. (I've not yet seen The Whale, for whatever that's worth.)

I'd also have to agree with Eric on the GOG 3 front. We waited two weeks before seeing it because we had other life things going on. This from the family that waited in the lines for Avengers while I was 9 months pregnant on my youngest child's due date.

I'd say GOG 3 is the best MCU release lately (the only other ones of equal or greater watchability being Black Panther 2 and Spiderman No way home). That said, I cried at GoG 3. Not as much as the others but it got me in the feels just enough. Which I've come to expect from the characters and Gunn. I'm pleased with the quality character development as well.

I feel all movies are at a significantly low quality for storytelling at this time in our lives. Call it post Covid funk, call it checkboxing, call it what you will. But today in this economic freak show I'm unwilling to dump $60 on movie if it's not a compelling story. Maybe that's just me getting old though! 🤪

I wanted GoG3 to make me cry but it never had a Yondu type of moment. I was there but the film didn't meet me halfway. And I'm an easy cry! :)

What does it say about me that the only things mentioned that I've seen are the original Miami Vice & Coming to America? it's like I basically stopped watching TV/Film in 1998.

Watching: The NBA draft. As a PDX native, this is usually an exercise in dashed expectations (take a bow, Sam Bowie), but last night's pick seems...good? I guess we'll see. We're a long way from the days of #RipCity, though.

Listening: Got a copy of Fugazi's "Margin Walker" EP as a Father's Day gift to myself. I have a knack for getting exactly the right kind of present. Also, Velveteen by PONY is an absolute screamer of sugary power pop.

Reading: SSDD

P.S. Gina, Switek & Zito all shoulda had more screen time.

It's funny, Gina, Switek & Zito all get a chance to shine in the movie. More so than in the show, at least.

No kidding? I'm gonna have to go find it!
