A show I love to rewatch: Daniel Knauf's 'Carnivale.' Though the show only lasted 24 episodes, it provides a lot of rewatch value - you can discover new elements and details all the time. This is a very visual show and a layered show, with little exposition, meaning a lot of things that are never explicitly spelled out.
Yeah, it was basically HBO's answer to Twin Peaks, made during its golden era when they could afford to bleed money on big budget prestige programs that might not find an audience. Sadly, the ratings were not high enough at the time to justify keeping it alongside The Wire, Deadwood, and Rome.
I love this show. I’ve watched it twice and definitely got more out of it the second time. It’s been at least a decade since I watched it so I’m going to watch it again. I love the episode with the mining town. So creepy.
"Silo" on Apple TV+ is incredible right out of the gate.
Kate Hudson’s Penny Lane in “Almost Famous” is among my all-time favorite movie characters. Cameron Crowe's adventures with Rolling Stone, and his journey to make the film, are fascinating tales of hustle and heart.
Okay, gotta slam my High five for the Almost Famous reference. I also am the progeny of an estranged father. I mistakenly assumed my childhood connection to him through music, yep 70's, was the foundation of our one-sided relationship. But I digress... Almost Famous is a FANTASTIC FILM. I cannot explain how transformative this film was to my collegiate self. I love this movie and now have to show my kids to enrich their cinematic education. Thanks for the little push.
I really like watching the seasons of the Office with Steve Carell. I’ve also watched Rick and Morty a couple of times. Pickle Rick episode at least 4 times. Oh Deadwood is a good one to watch again.
Sometimes it takes me months to finish a book. I'm on a good reading streak right now, though the Nineties is a long book. Probably going to take me several weeks, even reading daily.
I'm amazed there hasn't been a film about Oppenheimer until now. Can't wait for this upcoming trip to the Temple of Nolan (as my children put it). And yes, I'm equally excited for Dune Part II (I am a big fan of the book, and loved the last film).
Also, I rewatched Point Break recently, so I'm looking forward to the next part of your article. :)
Upon a rewatch I loved it even more. I think Kathryn Bigelow is brilliant at both celebrating and slightly satirising 80s/90s action movie machismo. Also, there are definitely homoerotic underpinnings to the Swayze/Reeves relationship, if you care to look for them. Also, also, that film has one of the all-time great foot chases.

Was that on HBO? I watched a handful of episodes but never quite latched on. Maybe I'll try it again. :)

If you have Max, I'd say def-ly try it again.

It's so easy to see how/why Kate Hudson became America's new sweetheart following Almost Famous. She's impossible not to love.

WOW! So many similarities! And here I thought I was the only one reaching for a flimsy connection via old music. :D
Almost Famous is such an amazing movie. I love it so.
Right, talk about kindred experience. I absolutely agree, Almost Famous is so good.
My favorite show to rewatch is The Good Place. My kids love it too! Also, Schitt’s Creek. (surprise! 😂)
We've chatted about Schitt's Creek before. Love that show!
I've never tried The Good Place but I hear it's great. One of these days..

Yes, the Steve Carell episodes of The Office are routinely amazing (apart from the uneven first season).
Deadwood! I LOVE that show. I recently started rewatching it again just because lol.
Reading: Forbidden beat by SW Lauden. Yes, still. Hoping to finally finish today.
Watching: My son's last season of club soccer before he graduates.
Listening: Last night, I listened to Jim Ruland read from his latest book. It was fantastic. Also spinning Beat Happening's "You Turn Me On" record.

Part of my mega-Point Break coverage will include a deep dive into Bigelow. She makes the movie special.
What did you think of Point Break upon rewatch? I'm dying to know! :D
