Also, Cobra Kai has got truly ridiculous and become a parody of itself. It ought to have ended at least one series ago, as the drama between Johnny and Daniel is over (ie they've pretty much buried the hatchet).
I literally have two different designs of Cobra Kai t-shirts in my closet, but I have to agree Simon, season 5 was not the best. Although it did have its moments to be sure, and I cannot wait for the final season. If Hillary Swank pops up in the final season 6, that would be super epic. My main prob with the series is that the kids are way too old looking now to still be in high school, since there were years between Season 1 and Season 5.

Did I just delete my long comment on The Last Samurai? Dammit. The thrust of it was that cultural appropriation seems to be a handwringing issue in the US, whereas in Japan they don't really give a crap (I don't think we really give a crap here in the UK either). I gave a few examples to back up my claims (eg the Japanese reaction to the remake of Ghost in the Shell), but I can't be bothered to write them all out again, sorry.
Supposedly, in real life Billy Zabka (Johnny) is down to Earth and generally a nice guy. Dunno if that's true or not, but I want it to be. Wild that he was /the/ villain for so many movies we watched growing up.
Reading/Watching: The absolute chaos that is Threads. I marvel at both the speed at which it has scaled up, and how irritated it leaves me.
Listening: J Church, and Pearl Jam's live record "Give Way."

Ahh! Le Kai! :) I had to shield my ooey-gooey heart from some of the relentless bullying aspects of it and bailed after season four. But you have set down an impressive trail of kibble that my sweet-child-o'89s (that was turrible, but worth it) puppy snout might not be able to resist. I think you're right that Johnny is the best thing in that epic saga of dueling dojos and war of nostalgia supremacy. SWEEP THE LEG 4LYFE! :)

My dad loves The Last Samurai so it's one of the few (maybe the only?) Tom Cruise films I've seen. I remember not hating it as much as I hated most of the stuff he had on the TV when I was growing up.

I'm happy they finally kissed and made up, and we still have karate adventures. Even if it's gotten silly.
