I started buying used Nintendo games about a decade ago and also dug out some of my old ones that were somehow still around, sitting in a box for decades and not lost. Tecmo Bowl still plays amazingly great so many years later and I have a lot of fun playing that now just like I did back when it first came out. It’s the only football video game I’ve ever been able to play with some level of competitiveness against the computer too!
There is an active group that updates the original source code of Tecmo Super Bowl every year with updated teams, rosters, and playoff trees. I highly recommend checking this out. I download the updates every year!
I stumbled across that in all my searching. So far I've just been enjoying the nostalgia of playing with '91 teams, but think I'll pull a modern league soon. It's pretty incredible that this is even a thing!

So many of the NES games still hold up. It's crazy. Good gameplay never goes out of style.
