OMG I missed that too. Eric, seriously, before any of us lose any more respect for you, please rectify this situation immediately.

The original Red Dawn is a classic and a must watch.

The remake is an abomination.

Louis Gossett Jr. mentoring a young white dude’ genre.

Which began with his Oscar-winning turn in "An Officer And A Gentleman" in the '80s.

The ‘Black Savior’ trope is a well worn story-telling device. Often it’s accompanied with mystical powers— Bagger Vance, The Shining.

I’m aware of the trope. I just like it best with Gossett Jr, apparently.

Definitely- most of Sidney Poitier's characters were like that...

Is that the one where the bad guys shout "Fuego!" when they fire a bazooka or something? I was a bit older when I saw it, but my buddy and I yelled "Fuego" in all kinds of situations for years after that.

I dunno Eric, Google AI disagrees:

"The phrase "toy soldiers fuego movie" likely refers to the 1991 action film Toy Soldiers, in which the word "fuego" is used by the villain. The movie is about a group of rebellious students at an exclusive prep school who must defend themselves and their classmates when terrorists, hired to free a drug lord, take the school hostage. "Fuego" is Spanish for "fire," and in the movie, the terrorist Luis Cali (Andrew Divoff) uses it to threaten the hostages, stating, "If you do not produce my father unharmed, I will begin executing the hostages". "

It's a weird answer though so I acknowledge it could be wrong.

EDIT: I probably shouldn't have included "Toy Soldiers" in the query. I asked my buddy and he doesn't remember.

You know, now that I think about it, I think that does happen. The baddies shoot a bazooka at a police car.

A couple months ago my wife and I were coming back from the airport and chatting with the uber driver. Just talking about travel and flights and whatnot. I told them both that pretty much all men A) think they could land the plane in an emergency situation and B) secretly hope we get the chance to.

Talking about things going on in men’s heads…one of my worst issues is thinking of really funny stuff at inopportune times. Nothing like getting a case of the giggles during a serious meeting or even better (worse?) at the urinal because I’ve got a stupid Instagram video in my head.

Literally one of my fave movies EVER. I still say 'The reverse is also true' on a regular basis and cannot believe the Great O'Grady (if you don't get this ref, please check it out) isn't more famous.

Thank you for doing this! 😁

Another home run. Iron Eagle. Loved that movie and a killer soundtrack! Haven't seen it in decades. I can't recall seeing Toy Soldiers but may look it up soon.

I am the same. Don't think about Romans, although I do read about them from time to time from a history teacher who posts on Medium.

I do think about, and plot out evasion, rescue and take-downs at all public outings. I also teach the kid to do the same. Anticipate chaos. Be prepared. Be observant.
