My brother and I scratched the heck out of this album listening to it over and over for years! Then I kind of forgot about it and when I moved to Chicago, I went into some now defunct women’s clothing store and they were selling CDs with their Christmas swag and I excitedly grabbed a copy of it and I’ve never stop listening to it since!
Once in a while I write about pop culture if something strikes me. If I do, I like to write it like you do. Less about the thing and more about the experience. The way you always tie it to your personal experience is ideal.
I'm branching into writing about other things as I settle into my new, sober writing voice.
I grew up on Sesame Street albums, so I get the "being moved by a puppet". Though technically you're just being moved by the voice actor. And a Muppet Christmas Carol songs are wonderful, too!
Never heard the album but it looks like I can stream it on Apple Music.
We do watch A Muppet Christmas Carole every Christmas Eve. Followed by the Always Sunny Xmas special. There was a note on substack a day or two ago that said something like "The Muppets could write A Christmas Carole but Dickens could never right "no cheeses for us meeces."
That sounds like some album. I confess I never have heard it- yet. I'm hoping that Sony (which now owns the RCA catalogue) will issue it on CD some time if it's not out like that already, even if they have to negotiate with Disney to use the Muppets. (And that wraparound cover!).
It isn't weird to be moved by a puppet when the puppeteer was Jim Henson. This was my favorite Christmas album when I was a kid, and it's still the one I play the most every year. Jim and John both left us a long time ago, but hopefully they're in a better place, still making their art.

I still have this record, and it's just as rad now as it was when we were kids.
Every time I read one of your pieces I learn about another of our shared experiences. Kudos, my friend.
Did you also sleep with a Kermit the Frog that dressed like a flasher??
Do you write about pop culture at all?

Thanks. I had no idea this was out there.
My archive is super deep (not just here, in general). When I think of it and it seems relevant, I try to resurface older stuff. 🤷🏼♂️😁
I'm a Muppet Head as well. Loved this piece. Thanks for the introspective moment.

I loved your stuffed Kermit too! Beautiful album which brings back those years to me as well...teary eyed, of course.

RIP John Denver and Jim Henson.
