Cruise is such a guilty pleasure for me. I think I probably feel towards him the way fans of Michael Jackson’s music feel towards Michael Jackson.

Lauren Bacall and Angela Bassett got their honorary Oscars at the Governator's Ball so I'm sure Harrison will get one!

I'm sure Ford will get his sooner or later, if he doesn't die first. It takes the Academy quite a bit of time to figure out whose work matters in Hollywood and whose work doesn't.

Acknowledging that Oscars are complete nonsense, I think there is a factor favoring Cruise over Ford as far as lifetime achievement. Cruise, who has made a few iffy movies, is nonetheless choosier, and a Cruise film was an event, downgraded to maybe semi-event after "Rock Of Ages" or so. Whereas Ford has somewhat diminished his brand with varied performances in lesser films, often in supporting roles, sometimes in movies where you forget he's even there.

Ford was an icon who often tried to just act. Cruise never let himself be anything less than iconic. But yes, they should both have Oscars. We're just headed into dangerous territory -- what's stopping them from honoring Arnold Schwarzenegger?

Cruise should have won for Magnolia. And Harrison should have won every time we strapped a blaster to his side. Star Wars would have been legendary on its own but Ford's portrayal of Han Solo's lent it a humor it wasn't destined to entirely have.
